After all the Environment Agency permissions were in place 4Recycling set about sourcing a number of recyclable materials that could be used to add nutrients and organic matter to the inert waste that makes up the majority of the restoration areas concerned.
We are able to charge a competitive gate fee for the materials brought on site and this contributes to the considerable costs of restoration.
Compost and artificial soils were created from the waste materials and then spread and incorporated on the re-profiled tips.
The nutrients and organic matter will allow sowings and plantings to establish quickly, stabilising the soil and thus preventing erosion of the restoration areas.
4Recycling continues to work together with their customer to minimise the environmental impact of quarrying activities and to reduce the cost of remediation work at their South West sites.
