Where we recycle by-products for use in land restoration we carry out a comprehensive level of testing to match their characteristics to those of the particular site or end use. Examples of sites treated are colliery spoil tips, hard rock quarries, sand and gravel extraction sites, closed landfills, opencast coal sites and sites stripped of top soil. We often work alongside site owners sharing the economic benefits of opening such sites to accepting suitable materials.
The benefits of adopting the 4Recycling land restoration approach are:
- Savings to the public or corporate purse by carrying out this work free of charge or paying the site owner for access.
- A sustainable use of suitable organic materials that can often be topped up to maintain required soil quality levels.
- Conservation of natural resources, by avoiding the use of quarried or processed virgin materials in the restoration process.
- Creating new soils creating new carbon sinks by growing grass, trees or other suitable plant or species habitats.
- Job creation in areas with an industrial history.
- Return of derelict land to worthwhile use.
- Environmental/ecological improvement Using many materials that were landfilled, cutting costs for by-product producers and preserving landfill capacity.
